Winter Preparations

Autumn is a lovely time to be in Snow Country, with the changing of the leaves and the great autumn food, but it is also the time to do the final preparations before the deep snow of winter arrives. Traditionally once the snow arrived much of one’s time was spend indoors and it was a long wait until the first greenery of spring arrived again.

This nice little video captures the atmosphere of the fall season nicely. It starts at Morimiyanohara Station, heads over to Ryugakubo Pond and then up into Akiyamago, where the residents of the little hamlets know more than most about being cut off by the winter snows, and are happy to share details of their life in amongst the deep snows with visitors.
